Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges of war crimes in Ukraine is ‘legally invalid’. He highlighted the fact that Russia did not sign the Rome Statute on the formation of the ICC.
He made this comment on social media after the issue of arrest warrant was announced by ICC in a statement on Friday.

According to the ICC statement on the charges against Putin, Putin is suspected of involvement in various crimes, including the illegal deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia. However, Moscow has denied all such allegations.
Maria Zakharova said, we do not have any effectiveness of this decision of ICC. It has no legal basis either. Because Russia is not under the Rome Statute. As a result, we do not have to go under the ICC.

The ICC was established to prosecute crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes worldwide. Although the ICC has judicial powers, it does not have the power to directly arrest anyone. The ICC can arrest someone with the help of Anna countries and face trial at its office in The Hague, Netherlands.
In addition, the International Court of Justice can exercise jurisdiction only in the case of countries that have signed the agreement to form the ICC. The treaty is called the Rome Statute. Where Russia has not signed. As a result, ICC has no chance to arrest Putin or bring him to court.
