15 killed in powerful earthquake in Ecuador and Peru Buildings were damaged in several cities after the 6.8 magnitude earthquake.
The earthquake hit the northern part of Peru along with the coastal region of Ecuador on Saturday (March 18) local time. The US Geological Survey said the epicenter was 64 km below the surface. Its origin is 10 kilometers away from Balao town in Guayaquil province. The earthquake was felt up to 50 miles away.
The injured are being treated at the hospital. The country’s president, Guillermo Lasso, has announced emergency aid for the victims. He urged Ecuadorians to remain calm. President Guillermo Lasso also said preparations are being made to provide emergency aid.
