Police raided former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s house in Lahore. The incident took place after Imran went to the capital Islamabad to appear in court on Saturday.
Imran was going to the court on Saturday to appear in the Toshakhana case. After he left home, police in Punjab province raided his residence.
The leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party condemned the raid, saying it was carried out while his wife Bushra Begum was alone at home.
In a tweet, Imran said, ‘Punjab Police raided my house in Zaman Park where Bushra Begum was alone. In what law are they doing this?’
Footage from Lahore showed police breaking the gate of Khan’s residence in the face of resistance from PTI supporters on Saturday. Meanwhile, the police are beating the supporters.
Last week, a sessions court in Islamabad issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case. The arrest warrant was issued due to his persistent absence from the hearing of the case. Police went to Imran’s residence in Lahore on Sunday to arrest him. Earlier, PTI workers took a stand there. Later the police came back from there. The police went to Imran’s house twice on Tuesday and Wednesday. The police had to return two days after being blocked by PTI supporters. The Islamabad High Court had set a date for hearing on Friday when the petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court to quash the lower court’s arrest warrant against Imran. The court on Friday suspended the arrest warrant against Imran on the condition that he appear before the court voluntarily.
