Prime Minister Narendra Modi may receive the Nobel Peace Prize. A delegation of the Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee visited India and gave this message on Thursday (March 16).
Ashley Tojo, the head of the delegation visiting India and the ‘Deputy Chief’ of the Nobel Prize Committee, praised Prime Minister Modi’s initiative to stop the Russia-Ukraine war and said, ‘Prime Minister Modi has made an important intervention in resolving the Ukraine crisis. Warned Russia against using nuclear weapons.’
In this context, Tojo also raised the issue of Modi’s comments to Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in Uzbekistan last September. Modi said directly to the Russian president there, ‘This is not the time for war.’
Tojo said, ‘There are many nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize from India. I think all world leaders will do whatever is necessary for the Nobel Peace Prize.’ This was followed by his ‘significant’ comment, ‘We have noted Modi’s efforts. A strong leader like Modi has extraordinary skills in peacemaking. Prime Minister Modi represents a powerful nation, which is held in high esteem in the world. Indians have immense power and credibility. I hope, they will use this credibility and power to end the terrible war.’
After the 2002 post-Godhra Gujarat riots, countries like America, Britain rejected the visa application of the then Chief Minister of that state, Narendra Modi. He was also accused of inciting unrest on the international stage. Modi has already won the legal battle. This time the circle will be filled with Nobel peace – only time will tell.
