A Jeep misplaced its engine earlier than the car half hit an SUV on a South Carolina interstate, officials stated.

A Jeep Renegade lost its engine, sending it flying toward a Ford on an interstate in South Carolina, officials said.
The engine then hit the Ford SUV, causing “extensive damage” on Monday, Feb. 6, according to first responders.
The crash left the Jeep driver with “multiple traumatic injuries” and also sent a passenger to a Charleston-area hospital’s trauma center. The people riding in the Ford Expedition received treatment at the scene, Colleton County Fire-Rescue said in a news release.
Officials reported the incident at about 4 p.m. along southbound Interstate 95, a busy East Coast thoroughfare. With travel reduced to one lane near mile marker 42, traffic snarled after the crash.
Rescuers said the Jeep had been traveling south when it went off the road and hit “several trees in the median.”
“The Jeep suffered heavy damage and overturned,” officials wrote. “The (engine) was ejected from the vehicle and struck a southbound Ford Expedition causing extensive damage to the Ford. A third vehicle was also involved but received only minor damage.”
Photos that crews posted online show a shredded vehicle lying on its roof with its wheels in the air. In another, a car part can be seen inside a lane of traffic.
The S.C. Highway Patrol, which reportedly started an investigation into the crash, didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Feb. 8.
Colleton County is roughly 50 miles west of Charleston.
