A powerful earthquake has killed at least 13 people in the South American country of Ecuador. One person was killed in neighboring Peru. It has caused extensive damage. Many houses were severely damaged in both countries. Anxious people leave their homes and rush to the streets. Online Al Jazeera gave this news. It said that a 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit the coastal area of Guayas in Ecuador on Saturday. This level was recorded by the United States Geological Survey. Its origin was about 80 kilometers from Guayaquil, the country’s second largest city. Authorities have not issued a tsunami warning as a result.
Ecuador said at least 126 people were injured in its country alone. President Guillermo Lasso said there is no doubt that the earthquake caused anxiety among the people. He said, all ministries have been activated. They have sufficient financial resources to measure the damage.
Reports said 11 people were killed in the Ecuadorian coastal town of El Oro. Two others were killed in Ajuai, a relatively high area. A four-year-old girl was injured when a nest fell on her head in the Tumbes region, Peruvian President Alberto Otarola said. He died of it. According to the Geophysics Institute of Ecuador, two more tremors were felt after the first earthquake.
