Today, March 17, is the 103rd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader of the world, the greatest Bengali ever, the father of the nation of Bangladesh and National Children’s Day-2023. The day is being celebrated with due dignity at Bangladesh Sub-High Commission premises in Kolkata on Friday.
In the morning, the national flag was hoisted and flowers were paid tribute to Bangabandhu’s statue on the ‘Mujib Chiranjeev’ stage. Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Andalib Ilyas and the officials of the Deputy High Commission were present at the time.
After that, special documentary films were screened at Bangladesh Gallery, messages sent by the Honorable President, Honorable Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs were read out respectively. Then there is a special prayer.

After the ceremony at the Sub-High Commission premises, tributes were paid to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s sculpture and a special prayer was organized at the Bangabandhu Memorial Room at Baker Government Hostel, Smith Lane, Kolkata. Deputy High Commissioner, Head of Embassy Sikdar Mohammad Asrafur Rahman, First Secretary (Press) Ranjan Sen, First Secretary (Commercial) Md Shamsul Arif, Councilor (Education and Sports) Riazul Islam, Councilor (Consular) ASM Almas Hossain were present there.
Besides, all employees of Deputy High Commission, officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Kolkata, Sonali Bank Limited, India Operations Kolkata also garlanded the statue of Bangabandhu.

In the second phase of the program, a painting and writing competition was organized with the participation of children and teenagers at the Bangladesh gallery of the Deputy High Commission at 4 pm. Discussions and cultural programs will be held in the presence of prominent people from 5 pm.

Deputy High Commission Andalib Elias said, today is a day of joy for the whole of Bangladesh. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great hero of history, was born 103 years ago today. Because of him the history of the world has changed. Today we are blessed to be able to celebrate his birthday in Kolkata. As you know, Bangabandhu’s political career began in Calcutta. Here is a snapshot of his political career. He established an independent country by leading one movement after another in the continuity of the leadership he gave. Every one of us is proud today regardless of the staff of the Bangladesh Deputy Embassy in Kolkata.
Debdulal Bhowmik, general secretary of Chittagong Press Club, said, I have heard a lot about unemployed hostels and read in books. I came through that hostel. We are thrilled to be here at the old establishment, the place where our beloved leader’s political career began. While climbing the stairs, I was more moved to think that Bangabandhu walked on these stairs. It’s great to come to that place.
