The Israeli army has started to invade different cities of Palestine. They are carrying out arrest operations recklessly. Murders are also taking place at this time. As a result, about 10,000 Palestinian students living in Israel and studying at Palestinian universities in the West Bank are in fear. Various sources have confirmed to Arab News that at least 250 of these students have left the university. They are staying in their homes inside Israel. It should be noted that about 5000 students are studying at the Arab American University in Jenin. An-Najah University has 3,000 students, Jerusalem University in Abu Dis has 1,100 and Hebron University has about 1,000 students. One of the reasons for the harassment of Palestinians is that Palestinian universities receive $8 million a year from students. If they leave universities, these institutions will suffer losses and Israeli universities will gain.
Palestinian students inside Israel are a good source of income for Palestinian universities in the West Bank. They rent houses near universities. As a result, they contribute to the local economy.
The security situation in those cities has seriously deteriorated. For these reasons, Israeli harassment, searches, and interrogations of students studying at these universities have increased. As a result, students are forced to drop out of studies. Note that the Israeli security agency Shin Bet has established a special unit to monitor only Palestinian students. Jalal Banna, a political analyst, said these students live in areas that are geographically a major security challenge for Israel. As a result, Palestinian students are naturally viewed with suspicion. On the other hand, Palestinian university students contacted Arab colleges located inside Israel and asked for the opportunity to study there. But the Israeli education minister rejected that demand. A lecturer at a Palestinian university lives inside Israel. His name is Amir Asi. He told Arab News that the Israeli authorities are unwilling to remove the obstacles faced by Palestinian students. Yusef Zabarin, another lecturer at the university, said that Israel rejected the demand to establish an Arab university for Palestinian students inside Israel, where studies would be taught in Arabic. At the same time, they are not allowed to study in Palestinian universities due to security reasons.
On the other hand, the governor of Jenin, Major General Akram Rajoub, told Arab News that the Israeli army is attacking Jenin and the camp there. This has a disastrous effect on the local population. Regarding the growing poverty in Jenin and the refugee camps there, he said, before the start of the Holy Ramadan, he distributed 200 coupons to help low-income people, so that they can buy daily necessities. But currently 700 such coupons are required. Elsewhere, Jenin and Camp have been used by the Israeli army as their training ground. They have established various units there. Using technology like drones.
